MOH provides campers with convenient bus service to and from neighborhoods throughout northern, central, and western Rhode Island. Families may also choose to drive campers to and from Mother of Hope Camp.
SEE BELOW FOR RULES, POLICIES, TIMES, AND LOCATIONS FOR BOTH BUS & CAR TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM CAMP.
Bus Policies:
Bus transportation to and from Mother of Hope Camp’s Summer Camp Program is provided by Durham School Services as a transportation convenience for the families of our campers. The contact number for Durham School Services is 401-334-3745.
Campers may not board the bus if their names and emergency contacts are not listed on the bus attendance sheet. If a child’s name is not listed, the adult responsible for the camper must drive the camper to the MOH Camp Office to provide necessary information/paperwork or outstanding payment PRIOR to dropping such camper off with the camp staff. The following are reasons that a child’s name may not be on the attendance list: payment not received by Mother of Hope Camp by the deadline date of the Thursday prior to the child’s attendance, copy of physical as well as immunization records completed within the 12 months of camp attendance has not yet been received by Mother of Hope Camp (deadline for receipt of medical paperwork is one week prior to the start of camp), family registered the camper after the preceding Friday at midnight deadline, or past disciplinary issue warranted exclusion from camp.
Campers are considered “present” at Mother of Hope Camp from the time they board the bus in the morning until the time they are dismissed from the bus in the afternoon and therefore are expected to know and abide by the rules of Mother of Hope Camp and Durham School Services while riding the camp bus. Mother of Hope Camp requires families/guardians to review the bus rules with their children prior to riding the bus.
In the event that a camper violates a serious rule or repeatedly violates rules, Mother of Hope Camp and/or Durham Bus Services reserves the right to suspend or discontinue bus services for that camper. It will then be the responsibility of the camper’s family to provide transportation to and from camp if they wish and/or are permitted to continue. Session fees will not be refunded in such an instance.
Scheduled times for each stop are approximate and can vary based on traffic and road construction. Families are expected to be at the designated stop 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time for both morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off. The bus will not wait for families who are not there when the bus arrives. Families who arrive after the bus has departed the stop may either drive to the next stop to drop off or pick up their child, drop off their child at camp, or pick up their child at the last stop along the bus route in the afternoon.
We will only dismiss a child to those listed as authorized according to camper registration records. Therefore, Mother of Hope Camp asks families to include all people authorized to pick-up their child on the registration at the time of registration. INDIVIDUALS AUTHORIZED TO PICK-UP CAMPERS MUST BE PREPARED TO SHOW A CURRENT PHOTO ID TO STAFF IF ASKED. Phone calls for change of authorized adult ARE NOT PERMITTED. Families may send a signed and dated note to Mother of Hope Camp to add authorized individuals to a camper’s registration record if necessary.

1. Leave plenty of time to get to the bus stop 15 minute before the scheduled drop-off and pick-up time. When you rush, you may not follow traffic safety rules.
2. Mother of Hope Camp is a technology-free camp. Campers may not carry or bring cell phones or any other electronic devices. Bus monitors and/drivers have phone access and emergency contact numbers for all campers riding the bus.
3. When waiting for the bus, stay on the sidewalks (where available) and away from the street. Be aware of traffic and follow safety rules.
4. Stay out of the DANGER ZONE (anywhere within 10 feet of the bus). Make sure the driver can see you at all times by staying 10 feet away from the bus.
5. Wait for the bus to stop completely before you approach it to get on.
6. Know your driver’s name and bus number to be sure you are boarding the right bus.
7. Clothes or backpacks with drawstrings, toggles or key chains can get caught on bus handrails and doors. Keep items securely stored in backpacks when boarding, while riding, and when exiting the bus.
8. When boarding and exiting the bus, hold the handrail so you don’t trip on the stairs.
9. Find a seat and sit down immediately. Remain seated and facing the front of the bus at all times while on the bus.
10. Be courteous, cooperative, and respectful to your driver and bus monitor. Do not distract the driver.
11. Talk and laugh quietly with friends, but do not scream; it distracts the driver.
12. Keep head, hands, feet and objects inside the bus and out of the isle. Do not block exits. Throwing items out the bus window will warrant discontinuation of bus privileges.
13. Keep hands and feet to yourself. Horseplay on the bus will warrant the discontinuation of bus privileges.
14. No eating or drinking on the bus. Keep backpack closed and items in backpack while on the bus.
15. Keep the bus clean and do not damage seats or any other parts of the bus. Families of campers who cause damage to bus property will be financially responsible for the repair and such campers will no longer be allowed to ride the bus.
16. Wait for the bus to stop completely AND for the bus monitor to call your name before you stand up to exit the bus. Go directly to and stay with the designated adult to whom you are released by the bus monitor. *The designated pick-up person must approach the bus only after the bus has stopped, state the name of the camper they are picking up, and allow verification by presentation of a photo ID before a camper is allowed to exit the bus.
17. If you drop something near the bus, don’t pick it up. The driver may not see you. Instead, ask the driver for help.
18. If you have to cross the street, wait until the driver lets you know it’s okay to cross. Be alert to traffic, look both ways, and always walk in front of the bus.
19. Stay away from the bus wheels at all times – especially the back wheels where it’s hard for the driver to see you.
